Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) For New Mexico's Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Beers.
Don't most dentists call themselves cosmetic dentists? What makes Dr. Beers different?
The word cosmetic has been thrown around a lot in dentistry. It can be common for a general dentist to call himself or herself a "cosmetic dentist" due to their use of white or composite filling material. The term has gained popularity in recent years due to reality shows such as Extreme Makeover. The public has clamored for a higher form of dentistry that goes beyond good dental health and seeks the esthetically pleasing. The result has been many dentists offering cosmetic services without proper understanding of the science behind the art. We all want Julia Roberts' smile, but few of us have her face and bone structure. Whitening and instant “braces” have become popular, however, the results have been less than stellar. Dr Beers has chosen a different approach. He sought out the best cosmetic association available, one dedicated to the art and science of cosmetic dentistry. He chose the American Association of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). The AACD has created one of the most rigorous standards of accreditation in the dental profession today. During this process the applicant is subjected to numerous classes and seminars, written boards and the publishing of five major cases. These cases are carefully photographed and documented. They are highly scrutinized for the smallest detail and often rejected for faults most professionals would fail to observe. Finally, the candidate must orally defend his treatment choices before a board of accredited cosmetic dentists who’s primary goal is only to allow the very best to pass.
